WYTHE CO –A woman and her mother are accused of hiding a baby’s body in a cave in rural Virginia.

On Friday, Ashley Meadows and her mother Twila Meadows, were arrested after the infant’s remains were found in the cave along East Lee Highway in Grahams Forge.

Wythe County authorities believe Ashley is the child’s mother.

Wythe County investigators got a tip and information about the child from Social Services on Thursday; the child’s body was found that afternoon.

Sheriff Doug King said the infant could have been in the cave as long as two weeks.

The child didn’t appear to have any physical injuries and the medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death – whether the child was born alive or was a still birth.

The women are charged with concealing a body and other charges could be place, depending on the outcome of the autopsy.
