SAN MATEO, Calif. -- A California woman being sued by the city of San Mateo for painting what she called messages from God on her house spent Friday painting new messages on a second home. Estrella Benavides, who owns homes in San Mateo and Belmont, was fined $5,000 for violating the city's sign ordinance by painting her San Mateo home.
The city filed suit after it said Benavides did not pay the fine. She has yet to respond to the lawsuit, which has a deadline next week. If she does not take action, she could be found in contempt of court.
Before painting on the front of the home Friday, Benavides painted messages on the first floor windows and the side of the Belmont residence.
A message above the garage read: "Help worse crime ever: evil + out of mind: from Bush to neighbors using witchcraft + technology against people not belong to their religious group:"
