SOUTH Yorkshire peer Lord Ahmed was today jailed for 12 weeks for texting while driving on a motorway just before he was involved in a crash in which a man died.
Lord Ahmed, aged 51, looked stunned but showed not other emotion as he was sent down by the Judge Mr Justice Wilkie at Sheffield Crown Court this morning.
The Judge told him: "In my judgement only custody can be justified."
He said he had been tempted to suspend the sentence but that Lord Ahmed's "prolonged, deliberate, repeated and highly dangerous driving" meant only only immediate custody could be justified...
Lord Ahmed was recently in the news for threatening to mobilise 10,000 muslims if a private screening of the Geert Wilders film Fitna were to go ahead at the house of Lords.
