Police are working to identify a suspect in the brutal beating on a Philadelphia tourist outside of a popular night club in Miami.
It was a vicious beating outside the Florida bar that cost Dontae Davis his life. The 27-year-old from West Philadelphia was on vacation celebrating his birthday in Miami Beach with his partner Jabbar, who during the melee was bit on his cheek and suffered a cut to his finger.
Dontae's mother Vicky Davis spent much of her evening at a funeral home in West Philadelphia preparing for her son's funeral.
Jabbar tells Eyewitness News on August 15th it all started at the Felt Lounge. Dontae asked a couple they had just met to leave their table out of fear the couple was going to rob them. The man and the woman, according to Jabbar, started the fight in which a woman hit Dontae over the head with a bottle of vodka.
The fight then spilled outside, where Jabbar says he bit off half the male suspect's right ear to try and get him to stop. After the fight was broken up, the couple fled and Dontae was left in a daze as he waited for police.
The 27 year old then collapsed and later died at the hospital.
According to Miami police, the suspects might be from Virginia or New York.
Dontae, who sought a career in fashion, will be cremated on Saturday, along with his watch, necklace and bracelet which were also stolen.
