@thirstyschaivo You're wrong. You get Russian driver's licenses from cereal boxes, not by taking exams.

@ohiknow I understand that you're going for a joke here, but driving exams are pretty strict in Poland. In the US you only need to take a multiple choice exam, drive around the block, and parallel park. In Poland you need to spend weeks taking theoretical, and practical classes, and they fail you for the smallest infraction.

@Eternal21 I would hope their tests are much more in depth given the assumed lack of intellect.

One of the lessons they drill into you when you get your motorbike licence is the check the shit out of your mirrors when you've stopped until at least 2 cars have stopped behind you.

@Jeremy Martin
But it's awfully hard--when you see someone isn't stopping--to quickly get your bike out of danger. even IF this biker had quickly pushed his bike further to the curb (he was already far towards the curb), he could still have been hit, as there is absolutely no guarantee that the approaching vehicle will not swerve one way or the other.
I think the only way the biker could have avoided this was to stay in bed.

@GoryGory Yeah obviously but having the bike in gear with you ready to let the clutch out and go gives you an infinitely better chance of getting shunted off the road as opposed to getting crushed.

@Jeremy Martin
Fair enough, but the scariest situation I had recently was when a car stopped beside me at a red light decided to change lanes into my lane... and obviously didn't see me. My hand was on the clutch, and the bike was in gear, but there wasn't a damned thing I could do other than twisting my front wheel sideways and pushing with my legs to get my bike further to the curb. She missed me by 3 inches and never even knew I was there.

and this is partly why I stay away from bikes...a rear end collision is felt much differently in a car than a bike...
