Dog Found Tied To Bench, Left For Dead Family Finds German Shepherd Tied To Park Bench On Summer Day

OILDALE, Calif. -- A trip to the park on a hot summer day became a rescue mission for the Rhoades family.
"We found a dog left there to die, nobody cared," said Amber Rhoades.
The family went to McCray Park in Oildale just a few blocks away from their home on Friday. They found a female German shepherd, tied to a park bench with no shelter while the temperatures were over 100 degrees.

"She was tied up with bailing wire on her neck and another wire to the park bench, sitting in the sun, no food, no shade, no water, nothing," said Rhoades.
They said the dog was in bad shape and looked as if she hadn't been taken care of in a while. The dog was emaciated and had open wounds on her ears.
"Her ears were bleeding. She was very dehydrated. Pretty much this side of death," said Rhoades.
They brought the dog home and took care of her needs, and after a few days the animal is doing very well.
"We would like to find out who did this to her. I would like to know. I would like them put in jail. They deserve that," said Rhoades.
Animal Control says anyone caught doing something like this is breaking the law.
"Depending on the circumstances, they can face misdemeanor charges, and unfortunately if the animal does pass away due to abandonment of abuse, they can even face more serious criminal charges," said Maggie Kalar of Kern County Animal Control.
The dog is now living in the lap of luxury, but unfortunately the Rhoads family can't keep the dog because they already have enough dogs of their own.
"I am hopping we can find her a home, if somebody would adopt her. we would love to find her a nice forever home," said Rhoades.
Anyone interested in adopting the animal can contact the family at
Animal Control officials add that if anyone in the community spots abused or mistreated animals, contact them at 661-321-3000.
