Twenty or so people had been on a cruise trip to Tallinn, Estonia. The bus driver, Kari Talvio, was taking the travellers back to Ylöjärvi, Western Finland from Helsinki on Friday-Saturday night. Just after midnight, Saturday 12th of July, nearby Valkeakoski on road 130 something unexpected happened.
Out of nowhere a moose jumps into the road. The driver tries to evade (wrong way) but can't prevent the collision. Moose gets smashed into the front of the bus that's going 100 km/h (62 mi/h), within the speed limit. Luckily the driver didn't overreact with his manouvers nor is there incoming traffic.
The road 130 was bordered with fences that should keep game animals away from the road but somehow this mare had found its way to it. The bus took minor damage to front and got its windshield somewhat shattered. Animal was killed instantly. Unfortunately it most likely had calves
