Woman 'stabbed daughter, 23, and baby granddaughter' in horrific Kentucky slaying spree

A Kentucky woman has been charged with murdering her daughter and baby granddaughter in a brutal stabbing spree.

Lillie Stanton, 48, is under police custody in hospital after she allegedly stabbed Danel Korrey Stanton, 23, and her 22-month-old daughter, Kaydence Ray Meirs, in the neck before turning the knife on herself on Sunday.

Winchester police Capt. James Hall would not release a motive for the killings, although he said Ms Stanton had confessed and revealed her intent to officers.

Police cannot elaborate 'at this time,' Capt Hall said, according to Kentucky.com.

Ms Stanton's former husband, Robert Stanton, discovered the grisly scene after arriving home at around 5.30pm and called police.

Officers discovered Korrey Stanton and Kaydence Miers slayed in a bedroom.

Several bloody knives were recovered from the house and have been sent to the Kentucky State Police for laboratory analysis to determine which might have been used on which victim.

Motive unclear: Police have charged Lillie Stanton with two counts of murder in the stabbing deaths of her daughter and granddaughter, pictured

The investigation is continuing although there are currently no other suspects in the murders.

'Not at this point, but the investigation is still ongoing,' Capt. Hall said.

'We are getting new information every day, people that have known the victims, or known the perpetrator.

'We will conduct interviews as long as we need to to get as much background information as we can.'

Officers were not able to question Ms Stanton until Monday afternoon because of her injuries.

The grandmother has been released from intensive care at the University of Kentucky Chandler hospital but remains under police guard there.

She was flown to the hospital by helicopter ambulance on Sunday.

'She is under our custody, we have officers with her,' Capt. Hall said. 'If she decides to leave, she will be coming with our officers to Clark County Detention.'

Search: Winchester police are still investigating the murders although Ms Stanton is the only suspect

Ms Stanton will be moved to the Clark County jail when she recovers from the self-inflicted wounds to her neck and wrists. She remains in a serious condition, police said.

Clark County Coroner Robert Gayheart said results from an autopsy on Monday showed that Kaydence Miers died of cutting injuries to her neck.

The exact cause of Korrey Stanton's death is still being investigated.

Mr Gayheart did not indicate the exact time the stabbings occurred.

Initial reports said police had received a 911 call that a woman had ran into her front yard screaming that she had killed her daughter and granddaughter and had then stabbed herself. But Capt. Hall said this was not the case.

Police said they were unaware of any previous domestic violence or disputes between the mother and daughter.

Neighbour Warren Sutton told Kentucky.com that he regularly saw Korrey Stanton pushing her daughter around the neighborhood in a baby carriage.

'She was a pretty little thing, she had blonde hair down her back and she was just beautiful,' Mr Sutton said of the toddler.

His wife, Mary Sutton, added: 'It's crazy. It's just crazy. I don't understand it.'

Another neighbour, Angel Jackson, said she had lived next door to the women on Vaught Road, Winchester, for four years and that Mr Stanton, who was Korrey's father, lived with the three when he was not on the road working.

Lillie Stanton 'was crazy about both of them,' Ms Jackson said of Korrey and Kaydence.

Korrey Stanton was involved in an ongoing custody case with Kaydence's father, Jonathon Miers, and a court hearing was to be held on Wednesday, according to police.

Capt. Hall refused to comment on whether the case had influenced the murders.

'I can't comment on that at this time,' he said. 'We are still waiting on court records.'
