  • One of my favourite airplanes of all time. Very Russian. The fact that they are still flying is a proof of their rugged design.

Yes it was. Saturn 5, Arpanet, Calculator, Death Ray. You know that plane was only supposed to have a top speed of 350knots, when it could actually go like 650knots due to the counter-rotary action? I'm all about counter-rotary everything.

    • @Rootfire Check out Ka-50 for counter-rotary, pretty awesome.

Ahh, yes. I've seen a few of these. And they have much better air torque than the single flopper. All of this is stuff I will demonstrate a better, safer, and more powerful & responsive way than ever before.
      Check out the Ka-52!

IT MUST HAVE A TAIL FAN AS NO OPTION!!! It's sluggish to turn; it could have so much more potential.
But I've trump'd that. I can show your man on SolidWorks 2010. Let's just say it's all about how you sit in More..

  • bear's are cooool, love the double propeller, crews have to wear special helmets that cancel out the sound otherwise the crew would go deaf.

  • Putin still sends these old things into British airspace every now and then to keep the RAF on their toes. Our Typhoon pilots always scramble and meet up with them.

    • @jackflint Just need one Typhoon to take care of all of them. :-)

    • @KrazyKom12 - Yeah, a few home made fireworks would probably be enough.

    • @jackflint They're keeping our pilots on their toes as well. I read some old '(cold) war stories' from a retired RNoAF pilot. They would line up with the Russians in the air, then they'd exchange greetings through hand phrases. The Russians then usually pulled out issues of Playboy Magazine and other porn mags to show our guys.

    • @snyhol - Ha ha, yes, all the pilots know that they're just pawns in a huge game of capitalist/communist chess :-)

  • I must admit that despite the age of those birds, they keep them in pristine condition. I wonder what kind of maintanance the ruskies give to those planes.

  • Is very fuel efficient even for today long distance bombers

  • The one thing Russia does well. Making badass planes.

  • I swear every russian cockpit has that awful green color on the instrument panel. Except that... great machines!

  • As a side note, the "Spruce Goose" still has a wider wingspan.

  • Those engines are louder than a Soyuz rocket.
