DC vigil for Haitian immigrant killed by police

Jean Louis, a long time Mt. Pleasant resident was killed on June 14th by DC police. He was reputed to have mental issues, but was armed only with a screwdriver killed by police.

One month later, a vigil was held at the location where he was killed. This is not the first time DC Police have shot someone under highly inappropriate circumstances. The 1991 Mt Pleasant Uprising was triggered by another such shooting-and some wondered when they saw a heavy SWAT response on June 14 to a yelling man armed with a screwdriver if history was repeating itself.

DC Councilmember Jim Graham appeared at the vigil, condemning the heavy and brutal police response to an elderly immigrant with a reputation for mental health issues. Let's see if he puts his words of July 14 into action by introducing legislation before the Council!
