U.S. Marines Training Raid with the Dutch
Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and Dutch Royal Marines assault an enemy encampment during a training raid at Camp Lejeune's Military Operations in Urban Terrain compound on Feb. 14, 2012. This raid was the final mission for the 24th MEU's Certification Exercise (CERTEX) with Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group, which took place Jan. 27 to Feb. 16, and included a series of missions intended to evaluate and certify the unit for their upcoming deployment.

They sure have built up and upgraded combat town since my time in the 80's.With good reason. I;ll have to look into it and see if this is the same area. Benning had a town that looked like a European town. LeJeune also had a "VC Village" out at LZ Owl. That was from the Vietnam days.

That LAV is the A2 version, obvious from the muffler and exhaust. I was in 2nd LAV before the Marines ever actually got them, and I was on one of the first 12 accepted by the FMF. Lots of upgrades since then. I remember we had to pull and reweld all the water can carriers behind the exhaust because it used to blow on them and melt the plastic cans. If we put a oil can there it would boil them. How they shipped them out without realizing that is beyond me. It was a learning experience for the Cor More..

It's interesting they planted palmettos there in the training area, to make it look more like the Middle East I expect. they aren't native to there.
