  • i worked my ass off from age 12 on up.
Mowing lawns, raking leaves, delivering newspapers etc...

I think that is just fine. And I think that's all Newt is saying.

      Hell yeah!
I threw the paper, cut grass, chopped and picked cotton, pulled oranges and dug potatoes among other things.
Heck, at eleven I was on the Safety Patrol at school, (Safety Cootie in the kid's terminology of the time), and we were trusted to walk to the center of an intersection and hold up the flags to stop traffic at the crosswalks without adult supervision so the kids could cross safely.
America is raising a bunch of kids who don't have to work for anything anymore.

I was in the fifth which was 1958-59.
We had the wide brim helmets and shoulder belts.
(The girls love a guy in uniform).
Nancy G. passed my post every day.
I would tip my helmet and wink.
We passed love notes to one another via my sister for a year but during that entire time I was too shy to actually speak to her.
I still get on Google Earth every now and then and get the street view of my intersection.
I also go to old neighborhoods and get the street view there.
      I'm getting really More..

  • What's wrong with letting kids work? As a kid, I delivered newspapers, cut lawns, raked leaves, washed windows, painted houses, etc... Fuck this lazy libtard asshole.

  • It isn't a "slave" requirement, it is an opportunity presentation. Let those who never saw the value of work see what it can bring.

  • I don't even like Gingrich but his proposal makes perfectly good sense. Uygur is a posturing buffoon who hopes that if he carries enough water for the Democrats then maybe he'll get his MSNBC job back after Schultz gets canned.

When I was in school, my pals who needed money cleaned restrooms, swept, mopped, and buffed floors from grade six on up. Sometimes I helped, if I had nothing better to do, just to pass time with a friend. Nobody looked down on these guys for doing honest work to earn a l More..

    • @yorba This country was greatest when robber barons shat on the working class who worked 16 hour days alongside their kids in sweat shops. FUCK YES!

  • young turks = irrelevant BS.

Example: "Will child labor laws be repealed if Republican Newt Gingrich defeats President Obama's reelection bid in 2012?"

Yeah right, dipshits, as if anyone is planning on repealing child-labor laws, lol. What complete bullshit. That's just emotional projection that the libs lap up. Thinking people see past that crap.

    • @MERCILESS liberals can make themselves believe anything. but i doubt people with a brain will believe their bullshit. but then again people with a brain don't watch young turks.

    • @MERCILESS - And the Teabaggers are just as good in believing fantasies also. As if Newt is NOT the biggest, sleaziest Washington insider there is. That fidelity in marriage is a good sign of character, and that character is important in a politician.

      Dream on.

    • @viennachoirboy kinda like clinton

      Posted Dec-5-2011 By

    • @nickgj83 - Clinton WAS sleazy; But no where NEAR the toxicity of Newt. Politicians on both sides of the aisle say that Clinton acted like a perv. However, NO ONE who worked with Newt A) liked him, and B) thought he was any sort of leader.

Newt was so bad his own party kicked him out. Check your history.

  • From my understanding of Gingrich's comment was that he was just trying give examples of how folks who have been dependent on handouts for a couple of generations can learn, at a young age, what it is like to work and get paid for it so that they might better break out of that cycle of dependence when they get out of school. Obviously there are some that count on the poor being dependent and, thus, loyal to a certain party and the handouts. Don't think I'd vote for Gingrich, but what he's sayin More..

    • @migs1955 - what percentage of US citizens live solely on hand-outs, do you imagine?

      Posted Dec-5-2011 By

      (-4)

    • @viennachoirboy It's not the handouts, it's the mentality. The generational welfare cycle is what I assume Gingrich is talking about. "Just keep voting for us and we'll take care of you." Gingrich says a lot of stuff that's on his mind- almost free association, lots of ideas both good and bad. Introducing young people to what working for a paycheck is like instead of a welfare check might be beneficial. He wasn't talking about replacing janitors, cafeteria workers and librarians with c More..

    Posted Dec-5-2011 By

  • The Young Turks are complete horse shit... I didn't come from a poor family; however, that didn't stop my parents from making me work to earn my own money. And YES, that included janitorial work at our local pool. I didn't like it then and it provided additional motivation for me to excel and make something of myself. Its amazing how the concept of "getting a job" is completely foreign with Liberals.

    • @01viper4me I worked in the beet fields and did farm work since 11. It was the best education and opportunity of my life as I look back on it. Having a great work ethic and responsibilities as a child and youth is what most of this generation lost when legislation stopped kids from working till it was too late. Liberals will never understand any of it because they think life is about a free ride. They make me vomit.

    • @Neinkenheimer - What percentage of Americans do you think live solely on hand-outs? Give a percentage of the population.

You may be surprised by reality.

    • @viennachoirboy stop with the red herrings you moron.

      Posted Dec-5-2011 By

      (-1)

    • @nickgj83 - What red herring? Have you listened to the video? Newt's premise is that poor kids are so use to hand-outs that they have no work ethic. My question: PROVE that these kids families don't have a work ethic and live solely on hand-outs? How is that a "Red Herring"?

And why so nasty - is it PMS time?

      Posted Dec-5-2011 By

      (1)

    • @viennachoirboy It's not that they do live solely on handouts. It's that they believe one should be able to live solely on handouts at the expense of others efforts. It's the ideology that's disgusting.

  • If your family doesn't have money there is usually a reason. If you aren't one of the lucky one's you'll have to work for it. Not really that bad is it?
