Hezbollah MP Hussein al-Haj Hassan has given word that Lebanon's parties are arming their supporters in preparation for internal conflict.
The lawmaker said Saturday that Samir Geagea leader of the right-wing Lebanese Forces, Walid Jumblatt leader of the Socialist Progressive Party, and Saad Al-Hariri chairman of the Al-Mustaqbal faction are preparing their supporters for a domestic armed confrontation.
Al-Haj Hassan added that the National Army informed the government of such developments, but that the ruling March 14 Alliance censured the media.
Other sources say that Michel Aoun, the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement has confirmed that domestic forces are preparing themselves for clashes.
Speaking at the memorial ceremony for Nahr al-Bared victims on Saturday, Aoun called on the Lebanese to unite to achieve sovereignty and avoid armed conflicts, IRNA reported.
Aoun termed the current state of affairs in Lebanon as critical and condemned the recent violence as a breach of tradition. He said that different parties should unite; instead of blaming one another and battling, they should reconcile in the name of a united Lebanon.
