Belhara-Perdun (or simply Belharra) is a shoal located on the Basque coast near Socoa, in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France.
This shoal at a depth of 14.50 meters creates a very violent wave that engulfed some ships moored Socoa, before the construction of the dam.
This wave - one of the highest in the world, with 8 to 12 meters high - is famous in the world entier3. It forms the north-west of the Bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, about 2.5 kilometers from the coast, and is watched by all surfers. It is rarely breaks, not at all in some years. It was surfed for the first time on 22 November 2002.
