Court closed for Finks hearing
THE public was prohibited from sitting in the first court hearing into
whether the Finks motorcycle gang can be declared a criminal
organisation.
Before barrister Peter Davis could begin making submissions for police
in the Brisbane Supreme Court, Justice David Boddice declared the court
must be closed under Section 108 of the Criminal Organisation Act 2009.
He said all persons, including media, must be excluded from the
courtroom except for the parties involved and their legal
representatives.
Police made an application earlier this month to dismantle the Finks
Motorcycle Club's Gold Coast chapter and stop them associating with each
other.
They alleged two decades of serious crimes - including murder,
extortion, drug trafficking, rape and other violence - to plead their
case.
The police application lodged with the court included detailed statements, phone intercept transcripts and visual evidence.
This is the first time police have used this legislation since it was introduced.

Over the years, I have met a couple of finks members - Never had an issue with them. From what I've heard, they seem to do a pretty good job at keeping the low lives and the shit heads in check. I also hate the idea that the government thinks they have the right to tell people who they can associate with. If they are criminals, charge them and send them to jail. If they commit no crime, or have done the time for previous crimes, why cant they be free citizens and ride together?

Similar attempts in New South Wales and South Australia were rejected by the High Court as unconstitutional. Fingers crossed the same happens in my state
