  • In the 2001 census I put Jedi knight as my religion and they phoned me up and said I couldnt be a Jedi. I'm not joking !
I said they were oppressing my religious beliefs.

  • My race and my religion are two things my government shouldn't be concerned with.
They always get confused with my response of "human" and "none".

  • Pretty interesting. 74% is totally unbelievable anyway,I don't know a single person who actually practices religion. In Scotland it just seems to be what football team you support that gives you your religion. That's why I'm an Atheist,it's all fucking stupid.

  • I really admire RDs work .. the world desperately needs to see religion for what it really is .. an evil means of controlling the "followers" .. mindless, shameful, hypocracy .. the stuff of war-mongers .. used to justify the worst acts of cruelty and violence against people .. the worst excesses of man's inhumanity to man ... and based primitive views and ignorance.

  • Very interesting data. Believe the USA would be surprisingly humbled with a similar census taken.
Always admired RD..Thanks for the post.

  • I agree Captain .. throughout human history there have been hundreds of different Gods, but with the advance of understanding of the natural world, one by one, most have been dropped and forgotten .. just one or two more to go and we will have arrived .. perhaps then we can work towards a world based on the universal laws of equality regardless of race or culture .. where spirituality is about humanity

  • At least he's objective and has no agenda. Otherwise it might taint his message here.

Now where did I leave my copy of Richard Dawkins book, The God Delusion?

    • @snedgy

I find it amazing that "scientists" get all wee-weed up over religion. In fact, they spend so much time proselytizing, I mean discussing, religion that they hardly have time for research. Rather than seeing religion as back ground static and a non-issue, they emotionally engage as if their religion were being challenged. We were led to believe these were non-human industrial robots that by definition were objective. You mean they are human, have a philosophy, an agenda, and a More..

    • @Yukon6400 Yeah, like no-one plays the "religious card" do they? Never in human history has religion ever been used as a leverage tool for just about every walk of life. You make me laugh with that statement, it seems very desperate.

  • you know, i don't always agree with his "sentiments", he's absolutely right about this. just like the whole "white people will be a minority in the USA". ONLY if you compare the population of ALL of the other "races" of people. by far, "whites" will still be the single largest demographic in the US.

this last census was "supposed" to show that there are more mexicans in the houston area than whites. NOpe. not even close.

  • Very few people actually convert into a religion. Atheism is the only belief system that is actually taking people OUT of other belief systems as true converts! Why is this happening? Because religions - all religions have acquired a pathetic or even - evil reputation.

Catholics molesting kids, Muslims carrying bombs, Protestants corrupting politicians, Sikhs bombing airplanes and Jews marginalizing Arabs, etc. etc.

    • @Nepean109 "Atheism is the only belief system that is actually taking people OUT of other belief systems as true converts!"

      Not true.

      "Catholics molesting kids"

Pardon me, that's Gay Priests molesting boys. There are gay other occupations molesting boys too. The theme there is the "gay" part because heterosexuals don't molest little boys. If heterosexuals molest anyone, it would tend to be the opposite sex. So the overriding theme is not Catholics, of which I am More..

  • I agree Nepean, especially younger people; well those given the opportunity to think for themseves. Its funny how so many people accept so much that science has achieved, and theories such as general relativity, quantum mechanics, fundamental particle physics and cosmology, that so few understand, but accept on the basis of evidence and the collective scientific views on those subjects. But when it comes to Darwinism vs. Creationism, many feel qualified to comment and deny, regardless of how lit More..
