There's just no good reason to keep them alive while skinning them. Even if it is quite inconvenient with the tools you have to make sure they are dead, the only possible reason I can think of is if you have so incredibly much to do that you simply CANNOT stop and take care of it effectively. But even that is a bad reason. I'm not a huge opponent of fur, but when the business creates this systematic HORRENDOUS torture, just to make a few bucks, I am fully against it.
