"If"
-By Rudyard Kipling-

If you can keep your head when others about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
And make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet, don’t look too good, nor talk too wise,

If you can dream –and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build them up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on, when there is nothing in you,
Except the will which says to them; “Hold on!!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue
Or walk with kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes, nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With 60 seconds worth of distance run;
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And which is more you’ll be a man, my son!!!

  • Aw that's a shame that you have to move from your beautiful place, but I understand your reasons, and you have to do what you have to do. How long have you lived in Wyoming? But Minnesota is a beautiful place too, and I know you guys will make that your new home, and it will turn out well for you. Hope you can find time to get on here from time to time and let us know how thing are going.

    • @marinemom

      Thanks, Mom.

      I've lived in Wyoming for 25 years... half my life pretty much. If we end up moving, we're going to do things in stages. We'll get my wife and kids set up with a house and get them in school... but I'll probably be traveling back and forth for a few months. With the housing allowance and extra income for my wife, we'll be able to keep paying the mortgage on our house until we decide whether we are going to rent it out or sell.

      Who knows... could end up being the More..

  • I hope all goes well for you and your family. That was funny that you thought he said 'dildo rub". That would be very confusing as to what was coming. Take care and have a nice day,Rob.

    • @BloodyPeasant Oh man, I used to go to northern Minnesota on the boundary waters for years up around Grand Marais. It is so far away from anything it is beautiful. I wish I could do another trip. We, my kids, and I used to do 50 mile canoe trip every year or so when I wasnt gone. Northern Pike as long as your arm. Fresh clams on the beaches. Lake trout and bass. Just had to be careful for the Wolves and Black Bears, but not too bad.
      Great place.

    • @BloodyPeasant Man I hated when I was in DC. I had to go to the Pentagon several times a year during my last few years. I hate the traffic, the Metro Rail, all the rush rush rush.

    • @BloodyPeasant Oh yeah. The wife and I went this summer To the WWII memorial with my father. (94) 37 1/2 year Vet. It was a nightmare. I have a niece who lives in Silver Spring and drives downtown and works at the Carlyle Group Building. I dont see how she can stand it every day. It's on Penn Ave next door to the FBI building. Screw that...

  • I've been out of the loop for a bit. I'm glad that I happened to stop in and find this yoursay from you.

    Best of luck to you and your family during this transitional time but I know you'll land on your feet and all will be OK for you all.

    I'll be looking forward to many more yoursays when you get things back on an even keel.

    Peace my friend!

  • Informative your say! Hope things go well in Minnesota. We will be neighbors! I was from Minnesota originally and very familiar with the twin cities areas. Any questions about it just give me a holler. Peace

      Wyoming will always be my home. I'm looking at this like having to go into exile for a few years until we get back on our feet and can return on our own terms (fingers crossed).

      And you can be sure I'll still be around LL... the bad pennies always keep turning up.

      PS.... need to know if I should send your "Dildo Dust" to the same address I used last time. Let me know.

      Peace, Brother... and thanks!

  • Just one lil tid bit of advice from an old man that was jerked around from base to base, all over the world, sometime with very little warning. And yes, I was married with kids.

    Look at it as an adventure and a challenge.
    Don't let it get you down Bud. If you are the "leader" of your pack, and everyone looks to you for guidance, the least little bit of negativity will seed and make things even harder than they already are. Kids are the toughest part. But they are resilient and can ma More..

  • The best thing about Minnesota is you can be the poorest mf'er and have a lakefront house. A couple of years ago I worked in Minneapolis for 6 months from Dec to May. Great people, great food, and cool scenery all over the state. Break out the snowmobiles.

    • @GatewayMetalHead

      Too true... the town of Worthington is built around Lake Okabena. After checking out the area on GoogleEarth, I told my wife I could fish a different lake every day for a year and never have to travel more than 35 miles in any direction.

      My Polaris RMK 800 isn't going to know what to do without any mountains to climb though. :o(

    • @EventHorizon2012 Yeah the best you're going to get there is a 40 ft hillside. Better start designing your ice fishing cabin lol.
