@darthmullet1 They are not dried garden peas but they are known here as "marrowfat" peas.
I know they are available in the states but you may have to soak them overnight, with a little bit of bicarbonate of soda in the water.

I always keep a batch of pea & ham soup in the freezer. I use a ham shank but I've used bacon bits like yourself shrekhead. I add a few veggies too. Pearl barley too.
I've tried using those quick soak peas too, but I wasn't mad keen on them. I prefer the overnight soak ones. I think they go more mushy!
