16 died instantly and 2 after being taken to the hospital after VW Transporter crashed head-on with large truck near Nowe Miasto in Mazowieckie District (Poland). The VW was allowed to carry 6 people only. In fact, there were 12 passengers over the limit.
Truck's driver suffered only minor injuriers, but can't be questioned due to mental shock. Officials say the VW's driver was overtaking in heavy fog when it happened. No tyre traces on the asphault means there was no any braking from any of the cars. All the passengeras from the VW were seasonal workers going to work at the apple orchard.
This is the third most deadly road crash in Polish history and the first where no bus was involved. Recently, 13 died in a bus crash near Berlin in Germany.
