Brocken Spectre

A rare weather phenomenon filmed on Croagh Patrick in Co Mayo Ireland. A combination of low cloud and a low sun create the necessary conditions for the event to occur. I never had the opportunity to witness a Brocken Spectre, it was quite the experience.

    • @MrCrabman
I can fully imagine this event as what some idiots throughout history refer to as "an angel descending" or "Jesus rising", etc.

It doesn't take much to convince people of supernatural events in the modern era, even with all the evidence science has to offer to the contrary.

Can you guys imagine how easily convinced stupid people throughout the ages were of supernatural events occurring, and the terrible people who took advantage of said idiots?

      Basically any re More..

  • A Brocken spectre (German Brockengespenst), also called Brocken bow, mountain spectre or glockenspectre is the apparently enormous and magnified shadow of an observer, cast upon the upper surfaces of clouds opposite the sun

  • For those who don't realise, the broken spectre is the shadow of the person who is holding the camera, and the people nearby. The "rain"bow/fogbow and its supernumaries are incidental.
Because of basic geometry, the shadows of the person observing and the mountain (usually) that they stand upon converge to a point opposite the sun, and no matter the shape of the mountain, the shadow appears triangular.
Also visible here is the opposition effect, where reflections and/or refractions fro More..

I'm pretty sure you'll find all that bogus scientific nonsense is incorrect.

What you are actually seeing is the resurrection of Jesus... no further explanation necessary because it is from God.

    • @Captainpish We considered that at the time but figured we were under prepared for a dimensional relocation.

    • @Matt Loughrey fair play. You would at least need some space rations and a laser blaster, not something you would carry on anything other than Friday nights. Shame that.

    • @Captainpish You never know - spontaneous phenomena does occur, it's just the average life span of 80 years is definitely not enough to witness it, there are events of different periods and they vary in intervals, some happen often some are not: imagine a 1 second event once every 45 million years, what are the chances of recording it? I'm sure there are "miracles" happening throughout the Universe, it's just we need another system of thought to get to it

  • I had a broken spectre once. Slipped on the floor in a bar in S.F. and when I woke up I couldn't sit down for a week.

  • Had to look it up. The spectre refers to the shadow of the guy. But the rings are different, kind of like rainbows but not quite. I think its like a rainbow but the colors are washed out since the reflection from the water droplets extends in the direction of viewing so angle of the different colors overlap, making white.
