Earlier this week MSNBC host Larry O’Donnell was doing his best to vilify the Oakland PD as heartless monsters who for no reason at all decided to use brutal force on innocent protesters. During an interview with one of the protesters, O’donnell lobs her a softball question and doesn’t get the answer he hoped for when the protester explains who started the violence.
“At that point we were in a position where we had to deploy gas in order to stop the crowd and people from pelting us with bottles and rocks,” the Oakland Interim Chief of Police told reporters following scrutiny of the police response to the protesters in Oakland.
“Did you see people throwing bottles and rocks at the police before they used those tactics?” O’Donnell asked a protester.
“Umm, yeah. People were doing that,” the protester told the MSNBC host.
Wow. They sure sound innocent, right? The police should never respond to physical assaults from an angry mob. Ridiculous! Horrible! What is this Bizzaro World?
The protester said the use of non-lethal ordinance in response to the bottles and rocks was wrong. Clearly the police should not defend themselves.
“Let’s have them get rid of that, that nonlethal teargas and the nonlethal bullets, the rubber bullets, and please let’s have them be sane and arm themselves with glass bottles and rocks,” Glenn said of the Oakland PD.
“What is the appropriate response when you’re being pelted with rocks and bottles? To stand there and take it? Is that what it’s supposed to be,” Pat added.
