Train Brakes - smoking hot
a Virgin Cross Country Train unit. Class 220 Voyagers, diesel electric multiple unit's (similar to the six degree tilting Class 221 Super Voyager and the Pendolino) but of a non titling mechanism.
One is seen here braking hard as it slows for a bend. The hot brakes are depositing a fine dust everywhere, at night the discs between the wheels can be seen to glow cherry red. Although it's a short clip it illustrates how it doesn't tilt into the curves like it's bigger brother and the rail cant too is almost non-existent - in comparison to the Pendolino tilting at speed on an earlier post on a highly canted rail.
