Billie Holiday(1915-1959)-I Love You, Porgy (1959)

She flew to England in February specially for the television appearance at the Chelsea at Nine.
I'd like to highlight her life and talent but found this on her death. Heartbraking.

"On May 31, 1959, Holiday was taken to Metropolitan Hospital in New York suffering from liver and heart disease. Police officers were stationed at the door to her room. She was arrested for drug possession as she lay dying, and her hospital room was raided by authorities. Holiday remained under police guard at the hospital until she died from cirrhosis of the liver on July 17, 1959. In the final years of her life, she had been progressively swindled out of her earnings, and she died with $0.70 in the bank and $750 (a tabloid fee) on her person. Her funeral mass was held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New York City." -Wikipedia-

'I love you, Porgy
Don't let him take me
Don't let him handle me
And drive me mad

If you can keep me
I want to stay with you forever
And I'll be glad

I love you, Porgy
Don't let him take me
Don't let him handle me
With his hot hands
If you can keep me
I want to stay with you forever
I like my man

Someday I know he's coming
Back to call me
He's gonna handle me
And hold me so

It's going to be like dying, Porgy
When he calls me
But when he comes, I know
I'll have to go'

RIP
