A sniper killed an Al-Jazeera reporter in southern Syria on Friday, the pan-Arab television network said, in the second such shooting of a journalist in two days in the conflict-swept country.
The killings take the death toll of reporters who have died in Syria's 22-month conflict to at least 20, according to a count by AFP and Paris-based media watchdog Reporters Without Borders, or RSF.
"Mohammed Hourani was shot dead by a regime sniper in Basra al-Harir in the province of Daraa, while he was covering the clashes there," Al-Jazeera said in a statement.

Not only no cover fire... but why didn't he wear a vest? Sure, he got hit on the side, and sure, most sniper rifles have calibers that usually go through a vest (but still? something is better than nothing).

Running a couple of seconds after the first militant was a big mistake,it drew attention to the crossing point and enabled the sniper to get range, bloody foolish, should have waited 5 minutes if not longer

Easy to forget that sometimes journalists are in the line of fire just as much as the soldier next to them. The difference is that the only weapon they hold is the light that they can shine on man's inhumanity to man.
R.I.P to all those who have died in the act of telling the world of the atrocities they see.

I'm not taking sides here but how was the sniper meant to know he was a journalist. Firstly he looks like a local and he is wearing plain clothing, secondly he just ran across after a guy who was carrying an AK47 and thirdly that thing he's carrying in his hand could be an IED for all the sniper knows. This guy should have taken a desk job instead of becoming a war journalis as he obviously didn't know what he was doing.
Btw I'm not saying I could have done better but I at least would have take More..

Unfortunately the thing about experience is it gives the test first and lessons later.... I do not think there is anyway where one can truly prepare or educate themself about what a war correspondent might face

@TEXAS HOLDEM123 That probably has more to do with him being a freelancer than a legitimate Al Jazeera reporter (who would probably have a vest and bodyguards as well).
Al Jazeera is claiming that he is a Syrian activist-turned reporter, so it also goes to show that they tossed any ounce of objectivity they had out the window by literally turning their sources into their local representatives.
