PHOENIX -- Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is stepping up his jail fashion sense.
The man known for providing pink boxers and green bologna to his inmates, is helping Tent City inmates with the unseasonably cold nights by providing them pink thermal long johns and extra blankets.
Tent City was erected in August 1993 with tents used in the Korean War. Inmates are kept under the protection of the tents erected in a yard next to a downtown jail facility.
Inmates are exposed to the outdoor elements throughout the year, and with temperatures in the mid- to high 20s through Saturday, the Tent City population will be chilled.
"Over a half a million people have come through those tents," Arpaio said. "They're all convicted. If they don't like the weather, my answer is don't violate the law."
Arpaio, an Army veteran during the Korean War, also said, "The conditions here are mild compared to what happened in 1950 in 'Frozen Chosin.'"
