Afterward, it was explained to the pilots that the landing gear was activated by that blue switch on the left and not that red on on the right.

@dallenvt I imagine they either dumped their extra fuel or simply flew circles until they were almost empty. Nobody would do a belly landing with extra fuel on board unless it was an absolute emergency to land.
