At the same public forum where the issue of Wal-Mart's campaign cash tripped up several councilmembers, someone from Occupy Our Homes asked councilmembers what they are doing about foreclosures and evictions. She specifially raised the issue of the ugly attempts by Freddie Mac and JP Morgan Chase to evict retired EMT/Paradmedic Deborah Harris from her home. After much boasting by many councilmembers about legislation they passed to limit foreclosures and evictions, DC Councilmember Tommy Wells effectively promised to intervene against both foreeclosure evictions. He invited Deborah Harris and Rev Michael Vanzant to come to his office and "take care of it."
Let's hope this works ourt better than former mayor Fenty's infamous "if you're not happy, I'm not happy" promise to Franklin Shelter residents he evicted the year after he uttered those famous words!
