Russia beats Iran in volleyball

Russia has come victorious over Iran's junior volleyball team in the President's Cup Volleyball Championship held in Almaty in Kazakhstan.

Russia defeated the Iranian squad Thursday 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-10) on the third day of the event.

Iran is slated to play against Pakistan on Friday before it meets the hosts, Kazakhstan, on Saturday.

The Iranian outfit won Estonia 3-2 on Thursday but was defeated by Tunisia and Russia in the first two encounters.

Kazakhstan, Iran, Tunisia, Pakistan, Estonia and Russia have participated in the event which runs from July 6 to 13.

The Iranian team is currently preparing to take part in the Asian Youth Volleyball Championship to be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in September.

Iran managed to win the Youth World Volleyball Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2007.

Alpos Cup: Puerto Rico beats Iran

Iran's national basketball team
The Iranian national basketball team was defeated by Puerto Rico in the four-team Alpos Cup tournament held in Maribor, Sloveni.

The Puerto Ricans beat the Iranian squad 83-80 on Wednesday evening.

On Tuesday, Iran lost its opening match in the tournament against Slovenia 96-71.

The Iranian outfit is scheduled to tackle New Zealand in its third encounter on Thursday.

Iran, Slovenia, Puerto Rico and New Zealand are participants in the event, which began on July 8 and will end July 10.

Iran's basketball team is preparing for games against Argentina, Lithuania, Russia and Australia in Group A of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games being held August 8-24.

Iran beach handball tastes 3rd defeat

Iran's beach handball team has been defeated by Serbia in the 3rd Men's Beach Handball World Championship hosted by Spain.

Serbia overpowered the Iranian squad 2-1 in its third game of the tournament in the Spanish city of Cadiz on Thursday.

Serbia won the first and third sets (18-9, 6-4), while Iran just won the second set (22-20).

This is the third consecutive defeat for the Iranian team as they were defeated 2-0 by Hungary and Russia in their first two encounters of the competition.

The Iranian outfit must now meet Croatia and Uruguay on Friday.

Iran is in the Group A, along with Russia, Serbia, Hungary, Croatia and Uruguay.

Spain is competing with Brazil, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey and Libya in Group B.

Egypt hosted the first biannual Beach Handball World Championships in 2004. The event was also hosted by Brazil in 2006.

Iran beach handball defeated by Russia

The 2006 runner-up Russia thrashes Iran in the 3rd Men's Beach Handball World Championship, which is being hosted by Spain.

The Iranian team lost 2-0 (22-7, 26-18) in the second game to Russia on Wednesday evening.

Iran was also defeated 2-0 (14-10, 18-12) by Hungary in its first match on Wednesday morning.

The Iranian team will now face Serbia on Thursday before taking on Croatia and Uruguay on Friday.

Iran was drawn in the Group A, along with Russia, Serbia, Hungary, Croatia and Uruguay.

The hosts Spain, Brazil, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, and Libya are competing in the Group B.

Egypt was the host of the first biannual Beach Handball World Championships in 2004; the event was next hosted by Brazil in 2006.

Slovenia thrashes Iran basketball team

Iran's national basketball team has lost its opening match in the four-team Alpos Cup games currently being held in Slovenia.

Slovenia achieved a 96-71 victory over the Iranian squad on Tuesday. Iran will next meet Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

Slovenia is scheduled to face New Zealand, which beat Puerto Rico 82-74 Tuesday.

Four-team friendly games, the Alpos Cup, began on July 8 and will end July 10. Iran, Slovenia, Puerto Rico and New Zealand are taking part in the event.

The Iranian outfit is preparing for games against Argentina, Lithuania, Russia and Australia in Group A of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which will be held August 8-24.

Croatia beats Iran's basketball team

Iran's national basketball team, which is currently in Croatia, has been defeated in a friendly match against the country's junior team.

The Iranian squad lost 91-72 to Croatia's under-21 national team on Saturday. Iran lost its first match to Croatia's national team 101-79 on Friday.

Iran's national basketball team is scheduled to take part in a four-squad friendly competition, due to be held in Slovenia July 8-10. Puerto Rico and New Zealand will also be present in the competition.

Iran will play against Argentina, Lithuania, Russia and Australia in Group A of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which will be held August 8-24.
