One tough Chinook
Part of channel(s): Afghanistan (current event)One of our
Chinook helicopters being engaged by an RPG during a routine Night Vision
Goggle Mission. The helicopter sustained minor damage and there were only minor
injuries onboard.
What you see falling off the back of the aircraft is a ramp extension.The good
news is that the aircraft was back in service shortly after this incident and
no one was killed. A testament to good training and good technology.

This video reveals a tactic used by the Taliban against Chinook's. They will always aim at that back ramp. If the ramp is open, the RPG tends to fly into the vehicle and erupt the fuel tanks! During Operation Redwing, They were trying to insert a SEAL team (via fast-rope insertion)as part of rescue mission of four other ambushed SEALs when an RPG was shot into the open ramp. The entire crew & all SEALs aboard were killed using this tactic.
