The police officer was in the right. When he put his hand in the officers face he became a threat. To top it off, If he said something threatening like "I'll kill you" or "I'll kick your a**", then that is reason enough to knock his block off.

Drunk should be charged with being intoxicated in a public place and the police officer with aggravated assault causing bodily harm.
Case closed, justice served.
I continue to be amazed at what passes for police officers in the US these days.
In any other western nation a guy like that would be unemployable.
