DC Councilmembers called out at forum for Wal-Mart campaign cash, influence

On the 9th of September, DC Councilmembers Muriel Bowser and Yvette Alexander were among the councilmembers present at a public forum for DC councilmembers. All councilmembers denied accepting money from Wal-Mart. In Muriel Bowser's case, that was a half-truth: no money from Wal-Mart Stores, inc but $1,000 from Foulger-Pratt, Wal-Mart's landlord. She also accepted Wal-Mart lobbyists David Wilmot as her "Campaign Finance Chairperson" in her 2008 campaign. He contributed $500 in person, and after a fundraiser his business partners kicked in another $6,200.

Several in attendance thought that the idea of no money contributed to DC politicians was NUTS given the amount of service they have since gotten from the DC Council to push back against neighborhood opposition to opening 6 Wal-Mart stores in the 67 square miles of DC.

Yvette Alexander spoke glowingly of Wal-MArt, saying they have "invested" in Ward 7. Gee-maybe she means the way they "invested" in Mexico with massive bribes to politiicans to stomp all over community opposition?
