Chattanooga airport, Tennessee
4 people on board a small plane have survived a crash landing in the parking lot of a Tennessee shopping center.
The twin-engine turboprop came down 2,000 feet short of the runway at the Chattanooga airport last night. It clipped at least three cars and a telephone pole in the parking lot before landing on top of another car.
The plane was badly damaged but there was no fire and bystanders helped pull the passengers to safety. All four were hurt, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
One of the rescuers says the pilot told him the plane ran out of fuel. The pilot was identified as Greg Jones of Tallahassee.
"People are saying that his flying skills are unbelievable. The fact that he landed it in a shopping center along side a busy highway and absolutely nobody got hurt on the ground. And that everybody that was in the plane walked away," says close family friend Kelly Otte after speaking with Jones's wife on the phone.
Nobody on the ground was hurt, even though there were people in at least one of the cars.
