Urban Exploration UK

After watching a recent video of an abandonned tunnel in Pittsburgh US, I decided to have a search for some local areas of interest for urban exploration and discovered this video.

Th "fire" tunnel at the start of the video is called Old Warden Tunnel, a 2 mile derelict train tunnel abandonned in 1964 after the rail cuts.
I have tried walking it's length on several occasions but have had to turn back after failing batteries at about half way (strange). Another weird thing I noticed was that the light at the end never appears to get any closer which is very offputting and plays tricks with your mind. It was pretty unnerving to have my torch go out on 2 occasions after a mile in I can tell you, you are literally left in pitch black conditions with only your imagination to keep you company...

Other locations include a disused WW2 era airbase, a military component storage facility complete with left over stock and a morgue !

I plan on visiting these places over the next few weeks so may test out my new HD video camera and post my exploits. I'm hoping to nab a few military souvenirs too...

  • Cool vid - good music. When I was a kid we used to sneak onto an old abandoned Nike missile base just outside of Chicago. It was creepy and always reminded me of those old black and white post-apocalyptic movies like On The Beach.

    • @gosst60 What do you mean "spirit" thing ? I've had 2 brand new sets of batteries completely drain on 2 separate occasions in virtually the exact same spot in the tunnel.

    • @gosst60 I am open minded to the idea that ghosts aka spirits of dead people do no exist, just because someone does not believe in the same bullshit as you do, which is on par with the shit religions preach, does not mean they have a "closed mind".

      Fuck your spirits.

  • Take a gas detector with you. If the tunnel has been sealed or poorly ventilated the chances are hydrogen sulphide is lurking.

    • @skerne It's sealed at all but the very top, where there is a 6 or so foot gap allowing a fairly strong flow of air. You can feel it walking through and the drop in temperature is very noticable.

What you need to remember is h2s will sit in the lower parts of a confined space. Also worth bearing in mind that many of the older buildings and pipes inside them have an asbestos hazard as well (nothing that a p4 dust mask would not stop though)
