F14 Tomcat - Air Combat Maneuvering.
Great little doc about some USN students getting their minds blown by the F-14 Tomcats performance in the skies over Miramar.
Ive always got my eyes open for good F-14 stuff, and its thin on the ground, but I think any Tomcat fans among you will enjoy this.

On the flight deck I would hold onto my aircraft while an F-14 right next to me went to afterburner while launching.
Man the sound and the heat was bad ass.

Thanks for posting this. The F-14 was/is my favorite fighter, the only thing that killed it was its high operating cost per flight hour. Relying on F-18's is akin to fitting your police force with priuses to save on gas money.
Well the F18E/F is an improvement but still doesn't win me over.

I had a big poster of an F-14 in my room when I was a kid. You can't believe how huge they are until you actually get near one at a museum. Cool looking plane. Back in the days of the F-14, there was actually competition, actual dog fighting days. Our planes nowadays are so advanced the only limit to how many enemy aircraft they can take out is how many missiles they can carry. Enemy can't even see them coming and certainly don't see them leaving.

@weada Theyve been predicting the end of the dogfight for years. They had to retrofit the F-4 with a cannon because orginally they thought missiles were a magic bullet
If they truly thought that old fashioned furballs were a thing of the past, they would not have given the F-22 thrust vectoring/super maneuverability and a big ole gun..
Fighters will still merge, and for ne main reason, IFF hasnt reached 100% reliabilty so for the most part fighter controllers want a positive ID with the MK1 ey More..

@gnark1ll I agree. I've read that most air engagements in Iraq were required to have positive visual ID before engagement. That kind of renders stealth and long range missiles pointless.

In my imagination I'm a super cool pilot but in reality I cant even read a map book in a car. If I ever got my chance you wouldn't be able to see through the canopy of my aircraft for puke.
