    • @MB-UK The mission objective of both our militaries was to take down Saddam Hussein and the Bathist party and also to dismantle their ability to wage war with other countries.

In short, you are welcome: Mission Acomplished. We stayed and tried to help them rebuild, trained their military (those who would show up on more than just payday).

It was really time for Iraqis to determine their own fate. I think we spilled more than enough blood trying to help them. If you disagree, then by all m More..

The mission objective changed a 100 times mate.
It started with finding WMDs till it finally became introducing freedom and democracy to the Iraqi people.
What it was achieved though is something completely different:
Today, Al Malaki has more powers than Saddam ever dreamed about having and Iraq has been handed over to Iran on a silver plater.

And talking about Iraq's ability to wage war with other countries. The West was very happy and supportive of Saddam waging war with Iran for More..

    • @God_Himself Respectfully, I was there the day we crossed the Kuwaiti border and briefed my soldiers on the mission as it was handed down to me. I know what the politics were that got us there and I agree with you on that point, but nation building was not a component of my mission til my third tour and frankly the Iraqis (most of them) did not want to help in that mission.

As for the IranIraq war, Iran was at one point a close allie but after they held our citizens hostage for a year, Ameri More..

    • @mabutoo

Did you seriously expect the Iraqis to cooperate with what they saw as an invading force that destroyed their country?
Would you have helped the Americans if you were Iraqi?

Iran under the Shah was a close friend because the CIA installed him as a dictator after getting rid of the democratically elected president.

Then after the hostage drama and the cassette revolution, Khomenei took power then the US and its allies unleashed Saddam.

    • @God_Himself Me personally, NO, but that was all the more reason why we should leave. We did what we came to do; why stick around for coffee?

Unleashed Saddam? LOL, wtf! I don't think you really know the extent of our involvement in the Iraq/Iran war. We sold arms and assisted with training much like the Russians did on the Iranian side. This was standard cold war practice.

BTW, we fought a war with the Germans and afterwards help them rebuild and they took over their government and act More..
