DAVIDSON COUNTY -- Four people died early Saturday after an accident on Joe Moore Road in Davidson County, according to the Highway Patrol.The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the vehicle, driven by Mayo, was travelling at an "extremely high rate of speed" when it left the roadway and struck a tree.
Three of the victims were thrown from the vehicle; all are believed to have been wearing seatbelts.
Officials believe the crash happened around 2 a.m. Saturday.
The victims were not discovered until 9 a.m. Saturday when residents living nearby spotted the car.
Alcohol was found inside the vehicle at the scene and Highway Patrol officers suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine if the driver had been drinking.
Investigators are working with the victims' friends and family to determine where the victims obtained the alcohol.

While it is yet to be determined how and if alcohol played a role in the accident and deaths of the four teens from Davidson Couty, Casey Bokhoven was definitely a victim of a drunk driver.
Casey died March 11, 2007. While standing on a sidewalk in Winston-Salem, NC, he was hit and killed by news anchor Tolly Carr.
