Modern rendition of one of many famous fables by French poet and fabulist Jean de La Fontaine [1621-1695] called "Le lievre et la tortue" ["The Hare and the Tortoise"] where the two critters agree to race and the tortoise wins.
I remember seeing a cartoon version of this in "Bugs Bunny".
The fable goes, "Rien ne sert de courir; il faut partir a point", meaning, "Slow and steady wins the race".
