Walled Lake police are investigating a man caught photographing girls at Mercer Beach on Monday, July 13.

Officers were dispatched to the Bayside Bar and Grille at 142 E. Walled Lake Drive on a report of a man parked in the west side of the parking lot near Mercer Beach photographing kids.

The suspect was reported to be in black Jeep.

When police approached the suspect he stated that he was an amateur photographer who was shooting beach scene pictures.

According to a Walled Lake Police Department report, the man was visibly frightened but divulged some pictures in his camera that showed five girls who didn't know they were being photographed.

A police officer surfed through the rest of the camera images, which included a photograph of a girl in a bikini with one breast exposed. Two others were snapshots of girls' buttocks, while another three showed the backsides of girls walking.

The officer interviewed the girl photographed with her breast exposed, who said that as she turned over on her towel her top slipped, causing the exposure. She was visibly shaken by the incident, according to the police report. She and another friend who was photographed told police they wanted to press charges.

An officer contacted Detective Bob McGhee, the sex offender registry contact officer for both the Walled Lake and Wolverine Lake police departments, who advised the officer to bring the suspect in for questioning despite the suspect's insistence that he did nothing wrong.

The case has been turned over to McGhee for investigation.
