Guy falls in front of light rail train after playfully horsing around with friend

Keoki Rosimo's 21st birthday celebration could easily have been his last.

Returning from celebrating with friends in downtown Portland, Rosimo lost his footing at a suburban Beaverton light-rail station and fell off the platform in front of a train as it began to leave the station.

The Oregonian reports the train's two cars passed over him as he lay between the track and the platform early last Thursday morning.

Rosimo suffered only an undisclosed foot injury and was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

TriMet spokeswoman Bekki Witt says the train is a newer model on which the outer skirt is higher than on old trains.

She says had it been an older model, Rosimo likely wouldn't have escaped with such minor injuries.

Beaverton police Detective Pam Yazzolino says the group of friends was "playfully horsing around" when Rosimo fell off the platform.

It was unclear why the train driver didn't see Rosimo fall.

Witt says the driver was relieved of duties for the night, but won't face disciplinary action.
