There was a fire underneath New York City's Harlem bridge earlier today that caused a commuter train to be shut off temporarily. After approximately two hours, the fire was brought under control. There were no reported injuries.
According to a fire department spokesperson, the cause of the fire in still under investigation.
The fire was only 5 miles north of the United Nations. Today the annual General Assembly was being celebrated there. The General Assembly is the main deliberative assembly of the United Nations. Composed of all United Nations member states, the assembly meets in regular yearly sessions under a president elected from among the member states.
"Normal p.m. rush service is expected this evening on all three lines, Hudson, Harlem and New Haven," the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), which operates Metro-North, stated.
"It appears that the signals and power are unaffected, which is good news," MTA Chairman Jay Walder stated.
