Amnesty International has called on the United Nations Security Council to condemn the Israeli massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Amnesty urged on Monday that the Security Council needs to immediately stop the Israeli regime from pushing ahead with its Gaza offensive and ease the humanitarian situation there.
Malcolm Smart, the director of the Middle East and North Africa program at the London-based NGO cited an 'unprecedented scale' of civilian casualties and destruction in Gaza and urged "The UN Security Council must not remain silent."
"The council can and must act and it should do so without further delay," AFP quoted him as saying.
The Security Council met on Saturday after Israel launched a ground offensive against Gaza following a week of air strikes. But it failed to agree a statement calling for immediate ceasefire due to the US intervention in the matter.
Smart further highlighted the council's "key responsibility to help ensure that the parties to the conflict respect international human rights and humanitarian law".
"It is imperative that the council urgently adopt a strong resolution condemning attacks against civilians by both Israel and Hamas and demanding that such attacks cease immediately," he urged.
The Council ended its third meeting about Gaza crisis late Saturday as the US once again blocked any resolution calling for an end the Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
Washington had rejected similar resolutions against Tel Aviv Last Sunday and Wednesday.
The US has so far vetoed over 40 anti-Israeli resolutions sought by the council since 1972.
Amnesty also called for the Security Council to urge Israel to lift restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and to consider the deployment of international monitors to the territory.
The Palestinian death toll rose to 568 early on Tuesday as Israel's offensive on Gaza enters the 11th day with more than 2720 people wounded in Israeli gunship fire and plane bombings.
Despite pro-Gaza protests across the world, Tel Aviv remains defiant of mounting calls for an end to its attacks on the populated coastal strip where an Israeli blockade has starved 1.5 people almost to death.
