Capsicum spray has always been touted by the NSW government as a non-lethal alternative but comes with many drawbacks.Number one is the fact that you may end up spraying yourself or your fellow officers and possible disabling the Police crews and leaving several Glock pistols unsecured or worse the assailant may use the service weapons against the Police.Number two is that it aggravates the situation from my experience, that then will require the intervention of a Tazer.Yes Tazers have killed people,for whatever reason, but I guarantee you the Tazer will drop the offender in seconds and any injury that may be incurred will be less traumatic than a bullet or several,from a Glock 9mm.Tazer applied- situation restored to calm and no possibility of missing your target with a pistol and killing an innocent bystander or two.Bad news for NSW is the government embarking on penny pinching slash and burn campaign while increasing public transport fares is the sign of a desperately broke state government.The purchasing of 15000 Tazers for NSW police will punch a hole in the already flimsy budget documents and considering that free student travel has been axed I won't be holding my breathe waiting for the DESPERATELY NEEDED TAZERS.There is a growing problem with drive-by shootings in Sydney's west and Police in the firing line need ever advantage we can give them.If England (most of whom's police are unarmed)has just announced they they will be deploying Tazers to all Police.Wake up Mr Rees the time until the next election is ticking and if Barry O'Farrell MP wants to lead the Liberals to victory he must back the Tazer deployment to all Police.If the English have realised the effectiveness and safety for all.what are we waiting for?
