  • It's still a thing in this country. They are not called slaved any more. They are called the lower class. Or the blue collar worker. Work your whole life so the wealthy that are running this country can tax you as you earn it, tax you as you spend it, then tax you if you save it. Slavery was never abolished it just had a name change.

    • @jimbo469 Or they could do what some of the black slaves did, William Ellison being a prime example. Save money instead of p*ssing it off on everything that comes along and start a business of their own.

    • @TMoray1 that could work if they could save. 33% of the pay is gone in taxes, another 15 to 30% goes to pay for health insuranse, then they are taxed when they spend it. am i misstaken or was he a slave owner?

    • @jimbo469 Didn't say it would be easy. Might have to live like a homeless person for quite a while.

If by "he" you mean Ellison, yes, he became a slave owner after being freed himself. At one point he was the largest slave owner in South Carolina. He manufactured cotton gins.

    • @TMoray1
He was one of how many slaves that made it? How did he get his freedom?

  • Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Clay), once declared “I’m glad my great-grandpa got on that boat.”

  • Whats controversial about stating the obvious? African Americans would have had it much worse if they stood in Africa. Their own people sold them as slaves so lets not pretend they were all free in Africa until the Europeans arrived.

    • @Salmonellalover629
They sold them because there was a market for slaves. Maybe you can judge better this issue if you get down from your high horse.

    • @dacian To be perfectly honest he's right. There was a market in Africa for slaves amongst Africans not just white Europeans, Arabs were the most prolific slave traders of black africans, many times that of Europeans. Slavery was big business all over Africa and historically was a sought after commodity due to the easy nature of obtaining slaves from already enslaved Africans, amongst the various African tribes. Africans Americans today are vastly better off now than if they were living in Afric More..

    • @dacian They're still doing it. Don't kid yourself. It's just that they're a lot cheaper now since the Western market has dried up thanks to mechanization.

    • @Americanalltheway You brought up more than one good point, one being that with nothing to do why don't they (slum dwellers in Africa) pick up their own trash instead of living in it?

  • Muhammad Ali said the same thing when he first saw and explored Africa.
When asked what he thought of Africa, I believe his exact words were "Thank god my granddaddy got on that boat".

  • Without it the race would still be confined to the continent. I still struggle with the blessings of it on many levels.

    • @dacian Why didn't the rest of them GTFO of there? Don't they realize if they'd gone to western Europe their skin would have lightened up, their hair would have straightened out, their noses would have narrowed, their lips would have become thinner, and they would have invented the wheel? All that from just a simple change of location. The miracles of geography.

  • actually I've heard pretty much the same thing said by black historians
they will aknowledge that blacks in America today are much better off than blacks in Africa today. and while slavery was horrible, this might be considered a silver lining .
this isn't racist , it's just an acknowledgement of the differences between Africa and United States today

But it's not as if the Democrat don't have a long and rich history of being racist.

  • actually, it was a blessing. had it not been for slavery, all of the descendants of slaves in the US would still be in africa. look how well those people are taken care of, and how well they are doing for themselves.

  • Well, he has a point. Would I rather be descended from slaves brought to America or would I rather be an average black living in western Africa today. Hmmm. Let me think about that for a nanosecond.

  • If he means that they are in the United States which is Number 1 and not in one of the poor countries in Africa then maybe hes right. (Not all African Countries are poor...)
