Safe Mode: On
Munroe Heart

As an online film maker, I hold with this approach.
No flashy stuff, get to the people and their stories ASAP.
Video lighting quality is mixed, but where it is good, it looks like NASA.

More to the point, here they corner a couple of heart surgeons and get some candid stuff.

Munroe is a non-profit, and that totally comes across in their way of presenting.

Note the lack of media jazz, coporate spin, but with 'oh by the way we have our own mission control facilities..."

This is Munroe Regional Medical Center, a 421-bed community hospital in Ocala, Florida.

I do like this approach to online film. Dump all that flashy media formula stuff and get to the real story in visuals, sound, pace and people.

Here the surgeons scene suffers from bad lighting color and levels (burnout). Sound, framing is great.

So what?

I just hold with this new no-BS approach to 'corporate' film making.

Let's stop all that MTV stuff - so 1980's.
Stop trying to look as if you would really like to be working in Hollywood and just tell the story.

There are some great visuals in here, but they remembered to keep the story at the heart of this.

Yeah, it's a little rough, but only on lighting that one scene.

The filmaker had the guts to keep that in. Respect.

  • Very refreshing. We have a program on TV in Oz called RPA which follows various patients through their hospital experiences, interactions with doctors and non-censored scenes of operations. All very matter-of-fact, no jazz, just normal life in a busy hospital.
