San Diego YMCA bars males from some swimming lessons
With summer now in full swing, San Diegans are heading to beaches and pools to cool off and get exercise. But for East-African women in City Heights, taking a dip isn't so easy. Many of them are Muslim and can't swim in co-ed pools. The women also expressed concern about the presence of dogs in parks, which are considered to be unclean animals in islamic culture.

@Triode Exactly. Local pool said they had women only swimming in certain hours. I went after surgery to avoid kids bumping into me. Turned out it was Muslim women only and I was asked to leave. Had on a one piece bathing suit but they women "apparently" felt "threatened" by my being there. Have lived near that pool for over 50 years and suddenly I'm not welcome in my own country. WTF. I think the Muslims should adapt to their new cultural homes. I don not think we should change our cultural norms to satisfy their religion no mare than we have any other religion. If they cannot or will not adjust perhaps they wold be happier in their native environs.

@fammin tell that to the fine folks at the catholic charities who built a few blocks worth of very nice condos for some east africans a few blocks from my old business.
i had no idea who was living there until i saw all the garbage start showing up on the porchs, broken down cars started to line the surrounding streets and the kids were literally running down the middle of the streets almost being hit by cars daily and my customers complaining that everything that wasn't tied down was missing ou More..

They only close the pool 1/2 hour early.
Swimming classes usually take at least a half hour anyway....so how does this class "take your freedoms?"
It doesn't take anything from anybody.
It is EXTRA accommodation for a group of people.
If you are jealous of that, rant about THAT. Don't rant about taking your freedoms. Nobody is taking your freedom.

OlDutch said they close early.
