ANTHEM, AZ - Warrant in hand, Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies spent hours searching the home where Dr. Don Underwood lives.
Underwood is charged with seven counts of child molestation and three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, after admitting to sex acts with a 9-year-old boy, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.
"That's sickening," said Underwood's neighbor, Joseph Thomas. "It makes me sick to my stomach. I have daughters of my own, and to hear about that really just brings you back to reality."
"It's absolutely shocking to me," said Tricia Reed, another neighbor. "I think the thing that's most shocking is that I never saw anything."
But Thomas said he did see Underwood with young boys. He said he thought they were Underwood's own children.
"I don't know exactly what the youngster looked like, but I've seen several over there," said Thomas. "That really even makes me more sick to my stomach, to think that those could have been innocent kids going over there, not knowing what's going on."
The victim's mother did not want to go on camera, but said Underwood, who specializes in natural medicine at East-West Integrated Healthcare in Anthem, does treat children, mainly testing for autism and attention deficit disorder.
"It's hard trusting doctors when things like that happen, especially with your own kids," said Thomas.
The boy's mother said her son spent a lot of time with Underwood, who was a family friend, but that he clung to her when she dropped him off.
Investigators say the boy told them the doctor played a "tickling game" while they were both nude at Underwood's home.
"You realize how easy it is for someone to do this," said Reed, who watched with the rest of the neighborhood, as investigators carried computers, boxes and other items out of the home Thursday night.
"I feel bad for the kids, really feel bad for them," said Thomas. "My heart goes out to them and the families of those children."
The boy's mother urges any parents who have associated with Underwood, or whose children were his patients, to talk to their kids, as investigators think there may be more victims.
