School Districts holding onto that $10 Billion Teacher Bailout…Bailout is not being used to hire teachers as Democrats claim

Democrats continue their spread the wealth economy by redistributing taxpayer dollars through continuous bailouts to special interests groups, in particular the unions. The “No More Bailout” president continues to reward those who helped him get elected. The rest of America only gets the bill.

In their latest bailout scheme, Obama and the Democrats pushed a $26 billion dollar bailout and Congress was called back from recess to vote on it. $10 billion of those unfunded dollars went to protect the teacher unions. It was done in a scheme that claimed this money was needed to keep teachers, firefighters, police officers and nurses on the job. Now we learn that the school districts are hoarding the money to cover future shortcomings and not hiring teachers as we were led to believe.

The New York Times reports:

As schools handed out pink slips to teachers this spring, states made a beeline to Washington to plead for money for their ravaged education budgets. But now that the federal government has come through with $10 billion, some of the nation’s biggest school districts are balking at using their share of the money to hire teachers right away.

With the economic outlook weakening, they argue that big deficits are looming for the next academic year and that they need to preserve the funds to prevent future layoffs. Los Angeles, for example, is projecting a $280 million budget shortfall next year that could threaten more jobs.

“You’ve got this herculean task to deal with next year’s deficit,” said Lydia L. Ramos, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District, the nation’s second-largest after New York City.

“So if there’s a way that you can lessen the blow for next year,” she said, “we feel like it would be responsible to try to do that.”

Instead of hiring/saving teaching jobs, these districts are holding the bailout money to pay for future spending. Just another scam upon the taxpayers who continue to be robbed of their money. All these bailouts by President Obama and the Democrats are bankrupting America. How is that spreading the wealth economy working for you America?

  • The hypocricy never ends with these people. Obama and the administration continue their attack on small business and the wealthy by saying the economy is not moving because they are not hiring/spending. Could it be they are fooooking scared to death of what this insane administration will do next???

    • You don't see the hypocricy? You don't think the teachers union is a democrat special interest group?

You probably don't see the idea of the Union hiring of people for $8.25 per hour to picket a job site claiming unfair wages hypocricy then....

    • The teacher's union is a group dedicated to preserving the integrity of public education and working conditions and wages of teachers.

Inasmuch as Republicans view public education as something to be dismantled, like social security and medicare, yes, Democrats are the political party that teacher's unions support. It wouldn't make sense to support candidates or a party that views your profession as a parasitic aspect of the commons.

There is no hypocrisy in maintaining current staffing l More..

    • I am not in favor of "bigger government" or the Dept. of education. I also don't find any connection from this story to unions. This was about funneling a money from the federal government through the states to fund education at the local level.

The overall point of the story is that districts are wary of hiring people for one year when they know the next year's budget will be even lower. It's good fiscal policy, and will lessen the need for additional bailouts next year.

  • They're doing the same thing here in Arizona.

We just passed a 1 percent sales tax to cover the rising costs of education in May. Now the POS teachers are asking for more money this November.

    FUCK THAT!

  • Schools are not special interest groups.

This story is inaccurate as many districts are indeed keeping staffing levels higher than they would without the money.

Most school districts are operating at 15% less than they were 2 years ago. Teachers have taken pay freezes, accepted furlough days, and in some cases, even worked for free.

But this was clearly articulated in the MSM already, as well as Fox News, so y'all already know this.
