CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An attempted armed robbery at a Pizza Hut in east Charlotte turned fatal for two people involved Monday night.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said at about 11:15 p.m., two employees were in the back of the business cleaning up for the night, when three men entered through the front door.
Police said the men attempted to rob the business by forcing the employees into the cooler, when one of the employees shot one of the men with his personal gun. The employee shot a second men, while the third fled the scene.
When emergency responders arrived, they pronounced both men dead.
Investigators continued to interview both employees Tuesday morning, while crime scene teams responded to collect physical evidence.
Two handguns were recovered from the armed men. A K-9 unit was used Tuesday in the search for the third man, who was still at-large Tuesday.
