You know that they now use T-ray imaging at toll booths, don't you?
With T-ray imaging, you don't need to read a plate. The heat signature of the entire car is read, and matched to a database in a millisecond. The legality of this technology is pending, however. So if you recently ran a toll booth with one of those gadgets, you are being closely watched, until the ruling is handed down. And yes, I just pulled this right out of my arse.

@rigotrash2 The 407 toll road near Toronto uses number plate recognition already. RFID tags can also be read at highway speeds. A friend of mine did some programming work for TxDOT's toll operation in central Texas and learned that there are big inductors under the road at toll booths which can be used to measure speed if they wanted (axles -- although that depends on the wheelbase.. which they could get if they new the VIN of your car, which they could get from the RFID's in your tires). I have seen something similar to this. In the event that your car gets stolen, you can flip the license plate over by remote using a smartphone. When the plate flips over, it says "call the police".

@slideordie24 Easy to not get caught if you're in a state that doesn't require vehicle inspections. Problem is, it's not a chance really worth taking. There are easier ways to dodge traffic cameras, some of which, shockingly enough, are quite legal.
